Our March, 2007 trip to Guatemala.

Mark Sinclair and Richard Porowski went to Guatemala in March, 2007 to visit friends and churches that Resurrection Life Church is involved with. Great time! There always seem to be some disappointments as we do the work of the Lord, but the blessings and encouragements almost always outweigh the negative. Mark and Richard went to several different places, including Amatitlán, Totonicapán, Chichicastenango and Quetzaltenango.

People from our church have made many trips to Guatemala in the past. Click on one of the links below to see more photos of those trips.

The first place Mark and Richard went to was Amatitlán to visit some good friends there. The first photo is of Mark and Richard on a mountain above the city. The second and third is of Helen, Heidy and Nereyda. The little boy belongs to Helen and her husband Mario. The last photo is of Lake Amatitlán.

Next they went to Totonicapán where they have already visited many times. Enrique Perez is pastor of a church there named Iglesia Palabra Viva, or Living Word Church. God is blessing the work there. The first photo is of Enrique and Mark on the property the church has bought and plans to build on soon. The other photos are of people in their church and of scenes in the town, of Enrique and his wife Raquel and their family, and of Richard speaking in one of the meetings.

Next Mark and Richard went to Chichicastenango to visit friends there for two days. Chichi is an ancient city established by the Spaniards in the 1500's. It is a place of much spiritual darkness, but also of some wonderful Christian works. The first four photos are of Elena, Manuela, Rigoberto and their mother Candelaria. They were a blessing to be with. The last five photos are of scenes in the city.

Next Mark and Richard went to Quetzaltenango further west in the high mountains of Guatemala. The Guatemalans call it the tierra fria, the cold country, because it gets quite cold in the winter months, being so high in the mountains. There are five churches there that are under the covering of Resurrection Life Church. Mark and Richard first stayed in La Cumbre with the pastor Enrique Matul and his lovely family. Resurrection Life Church financed the construction of the church building you can see in the fifth photo. The church is doing well now.

Next Mark and Richard went on to Nicolas's home for a meeting of the leaders, and then to the home of Eliseo Chojolán Pol and his family, where two meetings were held celebrating the anniversary of the church. On the Saturday morning a bunch of the people from the various churches went up a high mountain called the Cerro Quemado, the Burnt Hill, for prayer and fasting. The mountain is an extinct volcano that last exploded in 1902 or so. Afterward the prayer time, some of the brethren, including Mark and Richard, climbed the rest of the way to the top. Great exercise! In the afternoon some of the leaders went to the new property the church in Urbina, just outside of Quetzaltenango, to see the building the church there is renovating so they can use it for meetings. It is wonderful to see how God works step by step, little by little, to accomplish His purposes.
